DIPOLOG CITY, February 24, 2024 – In commemoration of Rotary’s 119th Founding Anniversary, the Rotary Club of Dipolog and Rotary Club of Metro Dipolog jointly hosted a seminar-workshop focusing on mental health, held on February 23. This event welcomed teaching and non-teaching personnel from the Department of Education, marking a significant step towards addressing mental health concerns within educational settings.

The objective of the seminar-workshop was to raise awareness among educators about the critical importance of mental health and to provide strategies for supporting learners facing various psychological challenges, particularly anxiety and depression. DepEd personnel were empowered to become effective gatekeepers within their schools, equipped with the knowledge necessary to identify and prevent instances of suicide within the community.

PDG Lindon See Diet of RC Dipolog set the tone for the event in his opening remarks, highlighting the theme of “Creating Hope in the World.” He underscored the role of Mental Health programs in nurturing hope within communities and urged participants to cultivate positive relationships and serve as role models for students’ holistic well-being.

Reynald P. Kyamko, head of the Office of Guidance and Counseling at MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, delivered the keynote topic, offering valuable insights into the mental health challenges confronting today’s youth. Attendees actively participated in workshops, engaging in assessment exercises to evaluate their own mental well-being. They also delved into case simulations aimed at enhancing their ability to support students in navigating life stressors and promoting a positive outlook.

DepEd Dipolog reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the overall health and well-being of learners. Initiatives outlined in Department Order (DO) 40, s. 2012, emphasize the organization’s zero-tolerance policy towards abuse, violence, discrimination, and other forms of mistreatment that may contribute to suicidal ideation among students.
