DIPOLOG CITY, March 2, 2024 – In a collaborative effort with the Mindanao Resource Institute for Community Empowerment (MINRICE), DepEd Dipolog hosted the Training Workshop on Child Protection Policy cum Child Protection Committee Functionality at the Top Plaza Hotel on March 1.

The training saw participation from selected schools and barangays in the south district, including school heads, guidance counselors, students, and barangay officials.

Funded by ChildFund Japan, a key partner of the non-profit organization MINRICE, the primary objective of this activity was to equip adults and teenage leaders with essential knowledge on safeguarding children from various forms of abuse.

Leading the training were Atty. Maria Cecille Bastasa-Tanaga, who elucidated the crucial aspects of laws safeguarding children’s rights, notably the Safe Spaces Act, Child Labor laws, RA 7610, RA 9262, and RA 9775, in addition to relevant Department Orders supporting these statutes; Leah Danielle Sumundong RGC covered topics on “Understanding Rights and Protection of Learners” and “Social Behavior Change Strategies for Learner Protection Campaign,” while Miaflor Ogarte RGC delved into addressing sexual abuse and managing such cases.

DepEd Dipolog remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding DO 40, s. 2012, commonly known as the Child Protection Policy. The protection and welfare of our children, the most vulnerable members of our community, continue to be the Department’s paramount concern.
