Galas National High School of Dipolog City Division wins this year’s 21st Gawad KALASAG Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Humanitarian Assistance Regional Level conducted last May 22, 2019.

The Gawad KALASAG (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) search remains to be one of the country’s fully institutionalized mechanism to measure the capacity and capability of various stakeholders in identifying risks and vulnerabilities in the community and address the challenges on human-induced and natural emergencies and disasters.

The Gawad KALASAG Regional Committee who joined during the field validation composed of the following: Dir. Noeme Edaga-PIA IX,Ms. Thelma Diego-DOST IX, Mr. Ver Lance Galanida-PAGASA, Ms. Sitti Aisa Askalani-DSWD IX, Mr. Alvin Rex Lucero-DILG IX, Mr. Rodrigo Manuel-NEDA IX,S/Insp Rommel Carpio-BFP IX, Engr. Tito Atilano-DPDW IX, Ms. Regina Madriaga-DTI IX, Mr. Dave Malcampo-ZABIPA, Ms. Elna Alih-CDP, Mr. Vicente Regalado-CHED IX, Mr. Hugo, Barraquias-DEPED IX & Mr. Jose Edwin Villarin-DICT IX.

As disclosed by the Regional Selection Committee IX, through the Office of Civil Defense IX and the Department of Interior and Local Government IX, Galas NHS garnered the highest score of 83.17 points in the school category for Public High School. This also means that Galas NHS is the regional contender at the National Level.

As of this writing, the faculty & staff of GNHS headed by Dr. Joselito S. Tizon, school principal IV is in the process of updating, improving and incorporating all the observations, recommendations and areas for improvement discussed during the exit conference/closeout meeting after the field validation as part of the school preparation of supporting documents to the Gawad KALASAG National Selection Committee.
